PEMBROKE — The Elizabethtown Majors team is scheduled to open the Dixie Youth Baseball Division 1 state tournament Saturday at 10 a.m. against Winter Park.
The 10-team, double-elimination tournament is being played in Pembroke. Play will continue through Thursday or Friday.
If Elizabethtown wins its opening game, it is scheduled to play Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against the winner between Topsail and host West Robeson. If Elizabethtown loses Saturday, it will play Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against the loser between Topsail and West Robeson.
Elizabethtown advanced to the state tournament by winning the District 9 championship at Leinwand Park with a thrilling 8-7 come-from-behind win against Fairmont on June 27 in the championship game.
