Update on 11/7/22:
North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Elwell Ferry has reopened. NCDOT added to the update this afternoon that SR1139 Mitchell Ford Road will be closed.
Mitchell Ford Road (SR1139) near White-McEwen Road (SR1136) is closed through Thursday, November 10, 2022, for cross-line repair.

North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Monday morning the Elwell Ferry is closed due to mechanical issues. The operator of the ferry said they receive an estimated 40 to 60 vehicles crossing the Cape Fear with the ferry each day it is in operation. Currently, there is no estimated time of when the ferry will reopen.
NCDOT also announced both lanes of the North Bound US Highway 701 over the Cape Fear River is closed. Traffic will be rerouted to the Southbound lanes. The closure has a WIDE LOAD TRAFFIC RESTRICTION.
