Junior twin brothers Ethan Hines and Eian Hines of East Bladen have qualified for the NCHSAA Class 2A State Track & Field Championships in Greensboro this Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track at Aggie Stadium on the North Carolina A&T State University campus. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.

Ethan Hines won the Long Jump Final at last week’s Class 2A Mid-East Regional in Franklinton with a leap of 23 feet, 5 inches. Eian Hines finished third with a jump of 23 feet, 0.5 inches.

Ethan had been fifth after the preliminary round, and Eian was 11th in the preliminaries. Only North Brunswick’s Jayhlen Washington who won the East Regional long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 6.5 inches had a better jump in any of the Class 2A regionals than Ethan Hines.

After finishing third in their preliminary heat, the Eagles 4×100 meter boys relay team missed qualifying for the state meet by .36 seconds. The top four finishers in each regional qualify for the state, and the Eagle team of Ethan Hines, Eian Hines, Trevares Carter and Josh McKoy placed fifth in the regional finals with a time of 44.84 compared to 44.48 for fourth-place Red Springs.

The Eagle 4×200 meter boys relay team and girls 4×100 meter relay team did not place in the finals. The girls 4×200 meter relay team finished eighth in the finals after placing 11th in the preliminaries. Members of that team are Michelle Page, Danika Spaulding, Tatyiana Graham and Caila Johnson.

East Bladen’s Autumn Lockamy was fifth in the shot put preliminaries but placed 11th in the shot finals with a toss of 20 feet, 3 inches. Graham ran the 100-meter girls finals and finished 16th in 13.76 seconds.
