Lennon Lacy Bio Pic‘Facing South,’ a publication of the Institute for Southern Studies, featured an article recently, “New Developments in possible lynching case out of North Carolina,” an update of recent activities related to the Lennon Lacy case in Bladenboro.

According to the publication, Southern Studies is a public interest media, and education center that was founded in 1970 by veterans of the civil rights movement.

The article was a rehash of the year old case of Lennon Lacy, a West Bladen high school student and athlete, found hanging on a swing set in a mobile home park in Bladenboro, plus some new information.

After an initial investigation, DA Jon David ruled the death a suicide. There was a call for further investigation by Lennon’s family, and supported by the North Carolina NAACP. Later David requested an investigation by the FBI and in December, the investigation was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). As of this date, there has been no report, apparently the investigation continues.

The recent report highlighted the following activities:

1) At a meeting held at Bladenboro First Missionary Baptist Church on August 28, A NC NAACP attorney said the FBI had recently interviewed Lacy’s mother, Claudia Lacy.

2) Dr. William Barber, NC NAACP President, reported two people had come to the NAACP with information suggesting Lacy’s death was not a suicide. According to the report, Dr. Barber referred them to law enforcement.

3) The article in ‘Facing South’, indicated Barber has spoken to US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, a North Carolina native.

4) The article reported that someone from outside North Carolina has approached the state NAACP and offered to put up a $25,000 reward for information related to the case. Barber was reported to have had the offer referred to the FBI.

5) According to the ‘Facing South’ article, Charlotte based singer-songwriter Jon Lindsay and others have released “Ballad of Lennon Lacy.”

At this point, it appears everyone is waiting on the findings of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
