BURGAW – Masion Brooks needed only 15 carries to pile up 359 rushing yards and scored seven touchdowns Friday night as East Bladen routed Pender 65-36 in a Waccamaw Conference football game.

The victory kept the Eagles (4-3 overall, 3-0 Waccamaw) unbeaten in league games heading into the final stretch of the season. East Bladen is scheduled to play at Heide Trask (3-3, 0-2) on Friday, host West Columbus (5-1,2-0) on Oct. 13 and conclude its regular season Oct. 20 at Whiteville (4-2, 1-1).

Pender is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Waccamaw games. The Patriots have a bye Friday.

Na’Toren Corbett ran for 107 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Quarterback Kewone Maynor added a 30-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Brooks scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 60 yard run. Blaine Pope’s conversion kick gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Brooks also scored on runs of 26, 51, 49, 56, 27 and 54 yards to lead the Eagles, who, as a team, amassed 570 yards rushing on 41 carries for an average of 13.9 yards per carry.

Pender finished with 471 yards rushing on 56 carries. The teams combined for 1,042 yards in total offense with the Patriots completing a pass for 1 yard.

Combined, the teams were 1-for-9 passing with three intercepted. Matt Kemp and Xavier Best had interceptions for East Bladen.

After Brooks’ long scoring run to open the game, Pender scored on its first possession. The Patriots 61 yards in eight plays with Jassiah Hill scoring on an 8-yard run. The conversion failed.

East Bladen answered on its next two possessions with Maynor’s 30-yard jaunt for a score and Brooks’ 26 yard run for a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Pender pulled within a converted touchdown in the second quarter on Mark Rawls’ 1-yard run that made it 19-12.

After Brooks and Pender’s Hill exchanged touchdown runs midway through the second quarter, Brooks found the end zone on runs of 49 and 56 yards that gave the Eagles a 43-18 halftime lead. Corbett and Brooks also had 2-point conversion runs in the half and Maynor passed to Malaki Moore for a 2-point conversion that capped the first half scoring.

Brooks and Corbett each ran for two touchdowns in the third quarter. Maynor passed to Jadon Pridgen for a 2-point conversion and Corbett ended East Bladen’s scoring with a 2-point conversion run that gave the Eagles a 65-30 lead.

Hill scored for Pender in the fourth quarter to account for the final score.

Hill scored four touchdowns and had 112 rushing yards to lead the the Patriots. Jeremiah Johnson ran for 156 yards and scored once on 20 carries. Demari Morgan had 109 rushing yards. Rawls scored the other Pender touchdown. The Patriots were unsuccessful on all six of their conversion attempts after touchdowns.
