BLADENBORO – South Brunswick pulled away with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and defeated West Bladen 41-12 Friday night in the Knights’ non-conference football opener.

Junior quarterback Tyre Boykin fired a 38-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Shy’ron Adams to pull the Knights to within 28-12 in the third quarter. On their next possession the Knights drove deep into Cougar territory before being stopped.

“That drive kind of fizzled out,” said Knight Coach Kris Williams. “After we failed to score there, it seemed to take the air out of everybody and they tacked on those two touchdowns.”

Boykin threw a 70-yard touchdown bomb to Adams for a first-half touchdown, and another apparent 46-yard touchdown pass to senior Kerron Washington was nullified by a holding penalty.

For the game Boykin completed 12 of 20 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Boykin also rushed 7 times for 25 yards.

Adams caught 5 passes for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns. Washington carried 3 times for 35 yards and caught 2 passes for 8 yards.

“Our blocking wasn’t good tonight,” said Coach Williams. “We have got a lot of things that we have to fix.”

The Knights will travel to Midway Friday night for their final non-conference game.
