WALLACE- Wallace-Rose Hill, the top-ranked 1A team in the state, exploded for 43 points in the first quarter en route to a 49-6 Four County Conference football victory over West Bladen Friday night.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at West Bladen, but heavy rains in Bladen County Thursday and Friday rendered the Knights field unplayable, and the athletic directors and football coaches from the two schools agreed to move the game to Wallace.

Junior Desmond Newkirk darted 49 yards for the first Bulldog touchdown, and senior Yahir Cano booted the extra point. Moments later the Bulldogs picked off a West Bladen pass and returned it for another touchdown and a 14-0 lead after Cano’s coversion.

The Bulldog defense scored again on a safety, then senior Jalyn Pollock returned the ensuing free kick for a touchdown and a 23-0 Wallace-Rose Hill lead.

Senior quarterback Aliza Carter hurled a 65-yard touchdown pass to junior Javonte Williams for another Bulldog touchdown and a 30-0 lead. Carter then hooked up with senior Daylen Wilson on an 8-yard touchdown pass with a minute remaining in the first period that pushed the lead to 37-0.

In the final seconds of the opening quarter, the Bulldogs scooped up a West Bladen fumble and returned it for a touchdown and a 43-0 lead.

Cano who converted 5 of 6 extra point attempts also boomed field goals in the second and fourth quarters for the final Bulldog points.

Junior B. J. Drake broke through the middle of the Bulldog line and sprinted 88 yards for the West Bladen touchdown on the first play of the second half. The conversion attempt failed.

Drake supplied most of the Knight offense rushing for 103 yards on 7 carries. Senior James Moore carried 9 times for 16 yards.

Junior quarterback Scott Bowen completed 3 of 4 passes for 31 yards for West Bladen. Senior end Trent West’s 31-yard reception led the Knight receivers.

West Bladen, now 2-4, will travel to Rocky Point Friday night to play Heide Trask
