Bladen County Animal Shelter

All dogs and cats need a rabies vaccinations according to the Bladen County ordinance. Rabies is a serious disease. It is caused by a virus.

This Saturday, December 10th, Dr. Sheila Hanby, owner of the Bladen Animal Hospital, will offer free rabies vaccinations.

“I wanted to give back to the community that has supported Bladen Animal Hospital since 1953! Also in light of the devastation created by the hurricane, I wanted to help people take care of their animals,” Dr. Hanby said about the clinic.

“Rabies vaccination is required by law and some people lost everything, so paying for a rabies vaccine is not a priority or even feasible for some.” Dr. Hanby continued.

Rabies is zoonotic, meaning contagious to people. Rabies is mainly a disease of animals. Humans get rabies when they are bitten by infected animals.

Dr. Hanby said, “We have several hundred vaccines ready so I hope we have a great turnout!  Everyone is welcome from our community and the surrounding areas!”

The free event will be held this Saturday, Dec 10 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Bladen Animal Hospital located at 606 Peanut Plant Rd, in Elizabethtown. One-year and three-year vaccinations will be distributed, however, written proof of a previous vaccine is required to receive the three vaccines.  Only dogs and cats please!  Any questions, call Bladen Animal Hospital at 910-862-3960. Any donations will be given to the Bladen County Animal Shelter.
