CHAPEL HILL — East Bladen senior Garrett Melvin has been named a winner of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award by the N.C. High School Athletic Association.
Melvin fired in 4 goals and dished out 3 assists in a season-opening 9-0 victory over East Columbus then repeated that performance of 4 goals and 3 assists in an 8-0 win over West Columbus.
Two athletes in NCHSAA competition are selected for the award each week from nominations received from coaches, media and school administrators. Swimmer Claire Curzan of Raleigh’s Cardinal Gibbons High School joined Melvin in receiving this week’s awards.
