ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior AnnaGrey Heustess and senior Maya McDonald posted double-doubles Friday night and led East Bladen’s unbeaten Lady Eagles to a 58-45 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over Whiteville.

Heustess pumped in a team-high 16 points, pulled down a whopping 15 rebounds, and had 3 assists, while McDonald tossed in 13 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.
Senior Alexus Mitchell contributed 13 points and 2 assists for the winners, and junior Maegan Burney threw in 10 points. Freshman Iveonna Ward keyed the East Bladen defense with 7 steals.
It required 4 Lady Eagles in double figures to overcome the 30 points poured in by Whiteville senior Trinity Smith. Freshman Elaysia Dawson chipped in with 9 points for the Lady Wolfpack before fouling out.
Trinity Smith sparked Whiteville to an early lead with 5 baskets in the 1st quarter. A 3-ball and another basket by Dawson edged the visitors ahead. Burney and McDonald popped in 3 baskets each to keep the Lady Eagles within 15-13 at the quarter break.
Heustess fired in a 3-point shot and 2 more baskets in the 2nd period, and Ward, McDonald and Burney dropped in baskets as East built a 26-21 halftime lead.
Mitchell blistered the nets with 3 baskets and 3 free throws in the 3rd quarter, and Ward and Heustess flipped in baskets. Burney made 2 free throws as the Lady Eagle lead grew to 43-30.
Trinity Smith rallied the Lady Wolfpack with 13 points in the final period, but East Bladen maintained the lead as Heustess nailed a 3-point shot, another basket and a foul shot. McDonald drove for 2 baskets and a free throw, and Mitchell sank 2 free throws and a field goal.
Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles ran their record to 5-0 and will visit Grays Creek Monday night.
