BLADENBORO – Freshman Malaya Hines bombed in six 3-point baskets and tallied 24 points to lead East Columbus to a 51-29 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over West Bladen Tuesday night.

The Knights were without 6 players who were quarantined due to contact tracing. Sophomore Mallory Bryan led the Lady Knights with 10 points. Sophomore Brookee Singletary finished with 9 points for West, and junior Lainey Autry added 5.

Singletary dropped in a basket and 2 free throws for the Lady Knights in the 1st period, but Hines knocked down a 3-ball and another basket as the Lady Gators grabbed an 11-4 lead.

Autry, Bryan, Singletary and freshman Kiera Lewis threw in baskets in the 2nd quarter, and freshman Holland Davis canned a foul shot to keep West within 22-13 at halftime. Hines and I’naya Carr-Graham drained 3-point shots to maintain the East lead.

Hines connected on a pair of 3-balls and another basket in the 3rd quarter, and sophomore Destiny Mitchell who finished with 10 points popped in a pair of baskets to push the Lady Gator lead to 38-22.

Bryan tossed in 4 baskets in the 2nd half for the Lady Knights. Autry nailed a 3-point shot, Singletary sank 3 free throws and Lewis flipped in another basket.

The Lady Knights, now 1-1, will travel to Lakewood Wednesday night.
