SOUTHPORT – Freshmen Meryn Deutsch and Aubree Adams combined for 26 points Wednesday night to lead South Brunswick to a 50-43 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over West Bladen.
Deutsch dropped in 10 of her game-high 16 points in the opening quarter as South built a 15-10 lead. Senior Kiera Lewis tossed in a basket and 2 free throws, junior Holland Davis nailed a 3-point shot, and Mallory Bryan flipped in a basket and a free throw to keep West close.
Lewis rallied the Lady Knights with 3 baskets and a free throw in the 2nd period. Sophomore Kali Allen buried a 3-point shot, and Zamariah Ward and Davis banged in baskets as the Lady Knights trimmed the margin to 25-24 at halftime.
Deutsch pumped in 2 baskets and a free throw, and Adyson Bell sank 3 free throws as the Lady Cougars opened up a 39-33 lead. Bryan delivered a 3-point basket, another basket and a free throw for West in the quarter. Allen popped in a basket, and Lewis netted a free throw.
Davis sparked a Lady Knight rally with 4 baskets in the final period, and Bryan threw in a basket. Tenna Perry buried a 3-ball, and Matea Moye added a basket to keep South in front.
Davis topped the West scoring with 13 points, and Lewis rang up 12 points. Bryan reached double-figures with 11 points, and Allen tallied 5 points.
Adams finished with 10 points for South, and Perry followed with 9 points. The Lady Cougars made 11 of 26 free throws, while the Lady Knights connected on 6 of their 12 foul shots.
The Lady Knights, now 4-5, will travel to West Columbus Wednesday night. South Brunswick, now 3-5, will visit North Brunswick Friday night.
