ST PAULS — Senior Jashontae Harris poured in 20 points and collected 8 steals and 6 assists to lead St. Pauls’ to a 71-32 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ basketball victory over West Bladen Friday night.
The Lady Bulldogs remain tied for 1st in the SAC with a 7-1 record and are 14-4 overall. St. Pauls’ will travel to Clinton Tuesday night. West Bladen (0-8, 4-13) will visit Fairmont – the team St. Pauls’ is tied with – Tuesday night.
Harris was presented with a ball before Friday’s game that signified her scoring 1,000 points in her St. Pauls’ career. Junior Zakoreya Davis scored 14 points and snagged 9 rebounds. Freshman Ava Monroe added 13 points and 4 steals, and sophomore Zhariana Shipman tallied 10 points and 5 steals.
Junior Holland Davis led the Lady Knights with 8 points. Senior Mallory Bryan was right behind her with 7 points. Sophomore Kali Allen rang up 6 points, and junior center Alina Chavez followed with 5 points. Senior Kiera Lewis tossed in 4 points.
Lewis drove for a lay-up, Allen nailed a 3-point shot and Chavez canned a free throw in the 1st quarter for West. A trio of Shipman baskets and a 3-pointer and a lay-up by Harris sparked St. Pauls’ to a 15-6 lead.
Harris bombed in a trio of 3-balls and tallied 11 points in the 2nd period. Monroe and Ashley Morris netted 4 points each as the Lady Bulldog lead grew to 40-15. Davis buried a 3-point shot and a free throw for West, and Bryan stole the ball and dashed for a lay-up then fired in a 3-ball.
Allen drained a 3-point shot to begin the 2nd half. Chavez banked in a short shot. Davis and Bryan drove for lay-ups, and sophomore Natalee Sykes popped in a baseline jumper. Monroe burnt the nets with a pair of 3-balls and 2 free throws, and Shipman netted a 3-pointer and a free throw to keep the margin at 56-26.
Davis muscled in 7 points for St. Pauls in the final period. Chavez cashed in 2 free throws for West, and Lewis and Davis drove for lay-ups.
