West Bladen’s Lady Knights rode a 13-4 second-period spurt to a 24-14 halftime lead and went on to defeat Heide Trask 48-36 Monday night in Four County Conference girls basketball action at West.

Junior Jerena Purdie worked the paint for 4 points, and sophmore Patience Parker fired in two more baskets as the Lady Knights edged in front 11-10 at the first quarter break.

Juniors Kassidy Anderson and Laikyn Pait threw in 2 baskets each to spark the 13-4 second quarter run. Junior Akira Grimes nailed a 3-point shot, and freshman Erika McKoy added a basket as the lead grew to ten points.

Junior Alanna Ludlum drained a 3-point shot and dropped in 2 more baskets to key a 17-11 third quarter surge that stretched the West lead to 41-25. Pait tallied two more baskets in the period.

Anderson, junior Logan Autry and Grimes tossed in a basket each in the final quarter to keep the Lady Knights on top.

Ten of the twelve Lady Knights who played in the game scored. Anderson and Pait topped the West scoring column with 8 points each. Grimes and Ludlum followed with 7 points each, and Purdie netted 6 points.

Alesha Ward led Trask with 12 points, and teammates Angel Boykins and Tiara Mitchell added 10 points each. The Lady Titans connected on 11 of 19 foul shots. West Bladen made 4 of their 6 free throws.

Coach Rick Rhoda’s Lady Knights remained unbeaten in league play with a 2-0 record and are 4-7 overall. West Bladen will host Pender Wednesday night.
