BLADENBORO – Juniors Kasee Singletary and Lexie Corrothers combined for 34 points to lead West Bladen to a 50-32 non-conference girls basketball victory over Union Friday night.
“Kasee played extremely well,” said Lady Knight Coach Brian McCleney. “She guarded really well and did a good job of driving the ball and making plays.”
Singletary canned 2 free throws and buried a 3-point shot for an early 5-0 Lady Knight lead. Senior Scada Ellison popped in an 8-footer to pad the margin to 7-0. West led 8-5 at the quarter break.
Justice Johnson threw in a runner and a free throw, and Amaya Jackson banked in an 8-footer to vault Union ahead at 10-8.
Corrothers answered with a follow shot then turned a steal into a lay-up and a 3-point play. Singletary banked in a 3-point shot then drove for a lay-up and a 19-12 West Bladen halftime lead.
The second half began with Corrothers driving for a trio of lay-ups and drilling in a 3-point shot as the Lady Knight lead grew to 28-12. Singletary drove for two more lay-ups and sent an assist to junior Mikayla Meadows for another lay-up and a 34-20 West Bladen lead at the quarter break.
Junior Jessica Labra and Singletary dropped in lay-ups to start the final period. Ellison muscled in a lay-up and a follow shot to push the West lead to 42-22 at the 4:42 mark. Two more Singletary lay-ups stretched the Lady Knight lead to 48-26.
Singletary finished with 20 points and 8 steals to lead the Lady Knights. Corrothers followed with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Ellison totaled 6 points and 5 rebounds. Meadows and senior Carley Dawson grabbed 6 rebounds each.
“Scjada Ellison played probably her best game ever for us,” said Coach McCleney. “She defended well and made some shots.”
McCleney continued, “We played better defensively on the back side – something we didn’t do against Westover. We were also able to get the ball inside on offense.”
Jackson led Union with 11 points, and Johnson followed with 10 points.
