BLADENBORO – Senior Kiera Lewis poured in 23 points to lead 4 West Bladen players in double-figures as the Lady Knights rolled to a 62-15 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over West Columbus Tuesday night.

Lewis also collected 3 rebounds, 3 steals and dished out 2 assists. Junior teammate Holland Davis fired in 12 points and grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds. Sophomore Kali Allen tossed in 11 points and had 3 steals. Junior Alina Chavez added 10 points, and senior Mallory Bryan netted 6 points and had 2 steals.

“Having Kiera at the top of the zone, we were able to get the ball out to her for some quick transition baskets,” said West Bladen Coach Brian McCleney. “Chavez is playing a lot better, and we got the ball inside to her more. Faith Wren came in and helped us a lot on defense.”

Lewis nailed a 17-footer to start the game, delivered an assist to Chavez for a short jumper, and hit a free throw for a 5-0 lead. Tierra Braddy answered with a 3-pointer for the Lady Vikings. Lewis sent an assist to Chavez for a lay-up, then sprinted for a trio of lay-ups – one off an Allen steal and one off her own steal – to grow the lead to 13-3.

Davis sank a free throw then powered in a follow shot to begin the 2nd period. Wren sent an assist to Bryan for a lay-up, and Bryan stole the ball and raced for another lay-up. Chavez banged in a follow, Lewis drove for a lay-up and a 3-point play, Allen buried a 3-point shot and Bryan cashed in 2 free throws for a 30-12 halftime lead.

Allen bombed in a pair of 3-point shots in the 3rd period, and Lewis scored a trio of lay-ups in transition – one off her own steal. Lewis banked in a 3-point shot at the quarter buzzer to stretch the margin to 45-15.

Chavez banked in a 4-footer and tossed in 2 foul shots to start the final quarter. Lewis scooted ahead for a pair of transition lay-ups, and Davis pushed the lead to 55-15 with a lay-up that began the mercy rule running clock with 5:41 left. Davis drilled in a corner 3-ball, and Allen and Davis closed out the scoring with a lay-up each.

Braddy connected on a trio of 3-point baskets and led West Columbus with 10 points.

After losing their 1st 4 games, the Lady Knights have now won 4 in a row and will travel to South Brunswick Wednesday night with a 4-4 record.
