BLADENBORO – St. Pauls scored an early goal then rode the worsening elements to a 1-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ soccer victory over West Bladen Wednesday night that was stopped at halftime but was an official game.

“We definitely had plenty of chances, but the pond in front of the goal stopped a lot of our opportunities, and dribbling was out of the question,” said Lady Knight Coach Kristen Parker. “They got a goal pretty early. Field conditions declined quickly and we were never able to put one in.

“It (the rain) was rough,” continued Parker. “I hated to postpone the game. Especially with next week being such a big week for us against Midway. But I was ready to change my mind about 5 minutes in.

“The St. Pauls coach and his girls really wanted to play though,” said Parker. “And most of mine were having fun in the rain as well … so we went for it.”

West Bladen, now 3-5 in SAC-7 play and 6-11 overall, will host Midway Tuesday night.
