A local hero’s legacy continues to shine brightly, even in the face of tragedy. Master Trooper Kevin Keith Conner, born and raised in Bladenboro, made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his community on October 17th, 2018. Today, we remember his life, his dedication, and the profound impact he had on those he touched.

From an early age, his parents, Glenn and Kay Conner, recalled that Kevin dreamed of becoming a state trooper, a dream that would eventually become his reality in 2007. Assigned to Troop B in Columbus County, he, along with his wife, Miranda, and their two children, Briley and Braxson, made it their home. Kevin wasn’t just a trooper; he was a humanitarian, a public servant, a wonderful friend, and a shining light to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Kevin was one of a kind,” remarked North Carolina First Sergeant Andrew Pait. “Always the life of the party, a great trooper, and engaged with the public on and off duty. There was never a dull moment, and he was always smiling. He had a great attitude and loved his job, serving and protecting the public.”

In 2019, the Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Foundation Inc. was established with a noble purpose—to give back and serve the communities that Kevin held dear. Through the generous support of sponsors and fundraising efforts, the foundation has already awarded over $40,000 in college scholarships to students in Columbus and Bladen Counties, with plans for further expansion in the works. Kevin’s legacy of service lives on, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.

In its fifth year, the 2023 Kevin Conner Memorial race, held in Whiteville, NC, drew nearly 1,000 participants, a testament to the unwavering community support for Trooper Kevin Conner’s enduring legacy. The event’s top finishers— Heather Braithwaite, Nathan Edwards, and Joshua Mills—showcased the spirit of camaraderie that defines this annual gathering.
