Today (Jan. 9) is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Monday morning at East Arcadia Elementary School, members of Zara Betterment/Baltimore Center served a delicious breakfast to several law enforcement officials, including Sherriff Jim McVicker, members of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Velma Jones, Wanda Daniels, Mary Owens and Quessie Peterson served eggs, bacon and grits to the officers.

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office “sends a heartfelt thank you to each of you. What a wonderful way to start off Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.”

According to nationaltoday.com, National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was created by multiple organizations in 2015 to express their gratitude for officers in the United States. In support of their services people are encouraged to do their part in thanking the law enforcers on this day.

There are over 900,000 officers in the United States. Law Enforcement Appreciation Day raises awareness on the importance of understanding that the difficult decisions taken by police officers are in the best interest of people and the law.

Bladen County is served by the Sherriff’s Office, Highway Patrol and police departments in Bladenboro, Elizabethtown and White Lake.
