A staff report

The Bladen County Health and Human Services Agency has dedicated April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. As a sign of solidarity, they are calling on citizens to dress in blue this Friday. It’s not just any Friday—it’s Wear Blue Day, set for April 5!

This is a day for everyone to don their favorite shades of blue, symbolizing their commitment to fostering safer, more nurturing experiences for the children of North Carolina. Wear Blue Day is more than a statement—it’s a movement. By wearing blue and sharing your photos online with the hashtags #WearBlueDayNC and #NC, you’re raising awareness and uniting with others in the fight against child abuse. It’s a visible demonstration of the collective pledge to protect our children and support families.

In conjunction with Wear Blue Day, the agency emphasizes the importance of community involvement in preventing child abuse through a variety of actionable tips. They advocate for increased education on the signs of abuse, bolstering support networks, acquiring healthy parenting skills, stress management, providing safe environments for children, and promoting open communication.

To make a significant impact, they urge individuals to not only recognize and report suspected abuse but also to seek professional help if needed, support community programs for at-risk families, teach children about healthy boundaries, and advocate for child-centric policies.

Bladen County is not stopping there. They invite you to walk with purpose at the Child Abuse Prevention Walk on April 18th. This event aims to bring the community together, raise awareness, and show unified support for the wellbeing of children.

By wearing blue and participating in the prevention walk, Bladen County citizens can contribute to a culture that prioritizes the safety and happiness of every child. Together, through these efforts, we can take meaningful steps towards preventing child abuse and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive community.
