RED SPRINGS – Freshman Zach Meares pitched a 2-hitter and struck out nine as East Bladen pounded Red Springs 18-0 in 4 innings Wednesday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball action.

The Eagles exploded for 8 runs in the first inning. Jay McKoy, Jake Evans, Meares, Freddie Wooten, Rasean McKoy and Garrett Melvin all drew walks and scored runs in the opening inning.

Freshman Brady Hollingsworth cracked a single and scored a run, and Tyler Hill belted a single. Xavier McKoy reached on a fielder’s choice and scored a run.

Hollingsworth ripped a double to start the Eagle second inning. One out later Xavier McKoy hammered a triple that scored Hollingsworth.

Rasean McKoy slammed a double that drove in Xavier McKoy, and Jay McKoy knocked in Rasean McKoy with a single that padded the lead to 11-0.

Wooten clubbed a one-out single in the Eagle third inning, and Hollingsworth swatted a single that scored Wooten. Hill smashed a double that scored Hollingsworth and later scored on Xavier McKoy’s fielder’s choice as the lead grew to 14-0.

Jay McKoy led off the Eagle fourth with a single, and Evans walked. Meares delivered a single that plated Jay McKoy. Wooten slugged a double that scored Evans and Meares. Hollingsworth drove in Wooten with a single.

Hollingsworth batted a perfect 4-4 with a double to lead the 15-hit East Bladen attack. Hill finished 3-4 at the plate with a double. Rasean McKoy batted a perfect 2-2 with a double. Wooten turned in a 2-3 game at the plate with a double.

Jay McKoy also batted 2-3, Xavier McKoy walloped the triple, and Meares added a single.

The Eagle jayvees will host West Columbus Friday at 4 p.m.
