DUNN- Midway exploded for 8 runs in the 3rd inning and rallied from a 5-0 deficit to claim an 11-8 Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Tuesday.
West Bladen (1-6-1) and Midway are the only 2 teams in the SAC that field jayvee baseball teams. The 2 teams will play again Friday at West Bladen.
The Knights jumped ahead with 5 1st inning runs. Chase Bryan and Jonah Bryan walked, and Brady Marlowe reached base on an error. Caison Brixey and Greyson Freeman drew walks that forced home Chase Bryan and Jonah Bryan, and Cayden Moore was hit by a pitch that forced home Marlowe. Aidan Trinidad drew a walk that forced home Ryan Dove, the courtesy runner for Brixey, and Keon Whittington’s fielder’s choice scored Freeman.
Gehrig Lane’s run-scoring triple, 5 walks, 2 hit batters and 2 errors produced the 8 runs in the Raider 3rd inning.
The Knights trimmed the margin to 8-7 with a pair of 4th inning runs. Marlowe raked a single to left, and Brixey cracked a single to the left side. Moore was hit by a pitch, and Kaleb Gaddy drew a walk that forced home Conner Hill, the courtesy runner for Marlowe. Trinidad walked to force home Brixey.
Two walks, a hit batter, a single and an error resulted in a trio of Raider runs in the home 4th that stretched the lead to 11-7.
Marlowe reached on an error in the Knight 5th inning and raced home when Brixey drilled a double to left field.
Wilson Mayo pitched 5 innings in relief of Raider starter Camden Wilson to pick up the win. Mayo allowed 3 runs – 2 earned – on 3 hits and 5 walks while striking out 7.
Brixey started for West and worked 2 innings on the mound allowing 3 runs on a hit and 4 walks while striking out 1. Chase Bryan pitched 0.1 innings of relief giving up 5 unearned runs on 2 walks, 2 errors and 2 hit batters. Trinidad worked 1.2 innings of relief and allowed 3 runs – 1 earned – on a hit and 3 walks.
Brixey batted 2-for-3 with a double, 2 runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Knights. Marlowe singled and scored twice. Trinidad had 2 RBIs, and Whittington, Gaddy and Moore had 1 RBI each. Chase Bryan, Jonah Bryan, Freeman, Hill and Dove scored 1 run each.
