TABOR CITY –South Columbus scored 10 runs in the 1st 2 innings then held on for a 10-9 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Monday.

West Bladen, now 1-3-1, will visit North Brunswick Wednesday. South Columbus will host Pender Tuesday.

Weston Hilburn yanked a 2-out single to left in the Knight 1st inning. Courtesy runner Keon Whittington advanced on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Ryan Dove and Brady Marlowe drew walks, and Whittington darted home on a passed ball. Dove stole a base and scored when Caison Brixey reached base on an error for a 2-0 West lead.

Six Stallion hits, a walk and 2 errors resulted in 6 runs in the home 1st. A hit batter, 2 walks and 2 more Stallion hits produced 4 more runs in the home 2nd inning.

The Knights did pull within 6-4 in their half of the 2nd. Tyler Lewis walked and sprinted to 3rd base on an errant pickoff attempt. Lewis scored as Jonah Bryan reached base on an error. Hilburn pounded a double to center field that scored Bryan.

Chase Bryan reached on an error in the West 4th inning, and Lewis walked. Jonah Bryan advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Hilburn poled a sacrifice fly to center that scored Chase Bryan. Dove roped a single to left that plated Lewis, and Marlowe and Aidan Trinidad drew walks. Greyson Freeman walked to force home Dove and trim the margin to 10-7.

Chase Bryan was hit by a pitch, and Jonah Bryan smacked a single in the Knight 5th inning. Hilburn knocked in Chase Bryan and Jonah Bryan with a single to center field to slice the lead to 10-9. West had 2 runners in scoring position in the 6th inning but failed to score.

Hilburn led the Knights batting 3-for-3 with a double and 4 runs batted in. Freeman, Dove and Jonah Bryan collected 1 hit each. Jonah Bryan, Dove and Freeman had RBIs. Lewis, Jonah Bryan, Chase Bryan and Dove scored 2 runs each. Whittington scored a run.

Brixey started on the mound for West and pitched 1.1 innings allowing 8 runs – 7 earned – on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1. Jonah Bryan worked 1.2 innings of relief and gave up 2 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Trinidad pitched 2 scoreless, hitless innings.

Kaleb Burchette batted 2-for-3 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and a run scored for South. Caden McRae was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Drake Ward doubled, had 2 RBIs and scored twice.

Briar Johnson pitched 3 innings for South and gave up 4 unearned runs on 3 walks and 2 hits while striking out 3. J. Greene pitched 2 innings and allowed 5 runs – 2 earned – on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 2. Ward struck out 2 in his scoreless inning of relief and gave up a hit and a walk.
