BLADENBORO – West Bladen bunched 5 hits and 3 walks in the 1st inning to score 6 runs en route to a 9-3 Southeastern Athletic Conference junior varsity baseball victory over Fairmont Tuesday.

Mason Lepine singled and scored on Jacob Jacobs’ double to give the Tornadoes an early 1-0 lead, before the Knights erupted for 6 runs in the bottom half of the first.

Hezekiah Blanks-Adams lined a lead-off single to center field, stole 2nd and 3rd bases then darted home on a wild pitch. Garrett Dunham and Cade Allen drew walks, before Brady Durden cracked a single to load the bases. Dunham and Allen dashed home on wild pitches to put West ahead 3-1.

Allister Russ knocked in Luke Pait, the courtesy runner for Durden, with a single to center field. Allister Russ advanced on a wild pitch and Mason Jones walked. Aiden Russ scorched a single through the left side that drove in Allister Russ and Jones and boosted the Knight lead to 6-1.

Andre Moore walloped a triple to center field in the West 2nd inning and scored when Allen raked a single past shortstop for a 7-1 lead.

Fairmont closed the gap to 7-2 in the 3rd inning as Damajah McRae singled and scored a run. Blanks-Adams drilled a single to center field in the Knight half of the 3rd, and Moore sliced a single to left. An error on the play scored Blanks-Adams and padded the lead to 8-2.

Durden pulled a single past shortstop in the Knight 4th inning. Jordan Hester walked, and Allister Russ laced a single to left to load the bases. After a force-out at the plate, Aiden Russ walked to force home Hester with the run that pushed the lead to 9-2.

Singles by Lepine and Kevin Hunt produced a Tornado run in the fifth.

Aiden Russ pitched a complete game 7-hitter, struck out 5 batters and walked 2 to earn the win for West Bladen. Blanks-Adams batted 3-for-4 and scored 2 runs to lead the Knight hitters. Moore slugged the triple and finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Allister Russ batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Brady Durden was 2-for-3 at the plate, and Aiden Russ drove in 3 runs and had the key 2-run single. Allen and Jones connected for 1 hit each. Dunham, Allen, Hester and Jones scored runs, and Allen had a RBI.

Lepine and Nehemiah Chavis both batted 2-3 to lead Fairmont.

West Bladen, now 1-2 in league play and 4-2 overall, will travel to Fairmont Friday for a return match.
