WHITEVILLE – Whiteville rallied from an early 5-0 deficit with 11 runs in the 1st 3 innings and defeated East Bladen 12-7 Tuesday in Waccamaw Conference jayvee baseball action.

The Eagles suffered their 1st conference loss and dropped in 6-1-2 in league play and 7-2-3 overall. Whiteville is 6-0 in league play and 7-2 overall. The 2 teams will play again Friday at East Bladen.

Zach Sholar led off the game with a single to center field, Torrean Cogdell walked, and Colton Daly ripped a single to right field to load the bases. Isaiah Lee and Tyler Eason drew walks to force home Sholar and Cogdell. Daly raced home on a wild pitch. Lee scored on Easton Bostic’s fielder’s choice. After Braylon Cromartie walked, Eason stole home on the back end of a double steal with Cromartie to put East up 5-0.

Whiteville bounced back with 6 runs in the bottom of the inning. Two walks, singles by Ty Mishue and Grayson Canady, a balk, a passed 3rd strike and doubles by Cody Rice, Jeffrey Van Etten and Collin Hooks produced the runs.

Sholar walked in the Eagle 2nd inning, stole 2 bases then scored on a balk to tie the game 6-6.

Layton McLean reached on a 3-base error in the Wolfpack 2nd and scored on Mishue’s fielder’s choice to edge Whiteville ahead 7-6.

The Wolfpack pulled away with 4 runs in the 3rd. Three walks, a Hooks single and a Mishue double produced the runs and an 11-6 lead. Two more walks and Rice’s run-scoring single pushed the lead to 12-6 in the 4th.

Eason was hit by a pitch in the 5th inning, stole 2nd base, advanced on Bostic’s fielder’s choice and scored on a balk.

Sholar and Daly belted singles for East Bladen. Lee, Eason and Bostic drove in runs. Eason and Sholar scored 2 runs each. Cogdell, Daly and Lee scored 1 run each.

Sholar pitched 2.2 innings and allowed 11 runs – 6 earned – on 7 hits and 5 walks while striking out 4. Bostic worked 2.1 innings of relief and allowed a run on 2 hits and 2 walks.

Rice batted 2-for-2 with a double, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored for Whiteville. Hooks finished 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Mishue was 2-for-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored. Canady batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. McLean scored 3 runs, and Van Etten doubled and had 3 RBIs.

Canady pitched 1.2 innings and allowed 6 runs on 5 walks and 2 hits while striking out 2. McLean pitched 2.1 scoreless, hitless innings while walking 3 and striking out 4. Mishue worked 2 hitless innings of relief but allowed a run.
