ELIZABETHTOWN – Shannon Hankins and Peyton Tatum led an 11-6 3rd quarter surge that carried East Bladen to a 33-31 non-conference jayvee boys’ basketball victory over Gray’s Creek Thursday.

With the score knotted 17-17 at halftime, Hankins threw in a pair of baskets, and Tatum sank 2 foul shots and a basket as the Eagles opened up a 28-23 lead. Darius Williamson popped in a basket and a free throw for East in the period.

Tatum connected for another field goal in the 4th quarter, Williamson dropped in 2 free throws, and Zac Metz hit one to keep the Eagles ahead.

Hankins and Tatum shared scoring honors with 6 points each. Williamson contributed 5 points, and Metz and Maynor totaled 4 points each.

Maynor connected for both of his baskets in the opening half, and Metz, Sherman Long and Jaylen Suggs all fired in 3-point shots in the first half.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagle jayvees are now 2-0 and will host Whiteville Friday.
