ELIZABETHTOWN — Nine different players scored and East Bladen never trailed in beating Red Springs 40-26 on Tuesday night in a Southeastern Athletic Conference junior varsity boys basketball game.

Shannon Hankins led with nine points and Sherman Long drilled a pair of 3-pointers as the Eagles improved to 7-4 in the conference and 13-6 overall. East Bladen will close its season Friday at St. Pauls.

Baskets by Keshawn Kemp and Tevin McLean staked the Eagles to an early 4-0 lead. East Bladen scored the final seven points of the first quarter on a bucket by McLean, three free throws by Hankins after he was fouled on a 3-point attempt, and a steal and layup by Chace Butler that made it 13-4.

After Red Springs scored to open the second half to pull within 23-14, East Bladen scored seven straight points ahead to open a 30-14 lead with 1:21 left in the third quarter. A free throw and basket by Kemp, a lay-up by Kewone Maynor and a basket inside by Kyran McKoy off a pass from McLean accounted for the points.

Hankins connected for a 3-point field goal and a 2-pointer early in the fourth quarter that gave East Bladen a 35-18 advantage.
