CLINTON — East Bladen’s John Monroe sent Friday’s Waccamaw Conference jayvee boys’ basketball game with Pender to overtime, and Torrean Cogdell, Jaquan McCrae and Dashawn Campbell sparked the Eagles to a 48-45 victory.

Monroe nailed a 3-point shot from the left wing with 2 seconds left to tie the game 39-39. Cogdell started the overtime scoring with a basket then sank 2 free throws for a 43-39 Eagle lead.

ZaQuan Murphy pulled Pender to within 43-42 with a 3-pointer, but McCrae scored on a follow shot, and Dashawn Campbell cashed in 2 free throws to stretch the lead to 47-42 with 46 seconds left. McCrae added a free throw, before Ricky Armstrong’s late 3-ball for Pender.

Campbell led the Eagles with 13 points, and Cogdell was right behind him with 12 points. McCrae and Braylon Cromartie finished with 7 points each, and Monroe totaled 6 points.

Cogdell tossed in 2 baskets and 2 free throws, and Campbell buried a 3-point shot to keep the Eagles tied 9-9 in the 1st quarter. Campbell dropped in a basket and a free throw in the 2nd period, and teammate Landyn Scott fired in a 3-ball. Cromartie flipped in a basket to keep East within 19-17 at halftime.

Cromartie drained a 3-point shot and another basket in the 3rd period. Monroe drilled in a 3-ball, and McCrae popped in a basket. However, Pender still led 32-27.

Campbell rallied the Eagles with 2 baskets and a free throw in the 4th quarter. Cogdell and McCrae pumped in baskets before Monroe’s game-tying bomb.

Reed Brown led the Patriots with 14 points. Murphy followed with 8 points, and Leon Williams tallied 7.

The jayvee Eagles improved to 6-3 in conference play and 8-7 overall. East Bladen will visit West Columbus Tuesday.
