ROSE HILL – Union beat the buzzer with the winning basket Wednesday as the Spartans claimed a 42-40 non-conference junior varsity boys basketball victory over West Bladen.
Joshua Lewis threw in a 3-point shot and 3 other baskets in the first half for the Knights. Teammate Donovan Stone sank 2 free throws and 2 other baskets before halftime.
Stone and Lewis made 2 free throws each in the third quarter as the Knights were limited to only six points in the period.
Lewis poured in 3 baskets and connected on 4 of 4 foul shots to rally the Knights in the final quarter. Center Lancine Soumahoro worked inside for a pair of baskets, and Stone added 3 free throws as the Knights pulled even at 40-40.
Lewis led the Knight scoring with 21 points. Stone finished with 11 points, and Soumahoro added 5 points.
West Bladen will host Red Springs Friday night in a Three Rivers Conference game.
