ELIZABETHTOWN — West Columbus trailed 25-7 at halftime and 38-27 before riding a 26-9 closing run to a 53-47 Waccamaw Conference jayvee boys’ basketball victory over East Bladen Wednesday. The Eagles had 4 players foul out including their 2 leading scorers.
Dashawn Campbell powered in 2 baskets and a free throw, John Monroe buried a 3-point shot, and Jaquan McCrea and Torrean Cogdell added baskets as the Eagles raced to a 12-4 lead.
Ihon Thomas fired in a 3-point shot, 3 free throws and another basket in the 2nd period. Campbell threw in a basket and a free throw, and Landyn Scott tossed in a basket to grow the halftime lead to 25-7.
McCrea popped in a pair of baskets to start the 2nd half. Campbell pumped in a basket and a free throw, Cogdell made 4 free throws, and Scott flipped in another basket to keep East up 38-27.
Braylon Cromartie nailed a 3-point shot to give the Eagles their final lead at 47-44. Cogdell sank 2 free throws and a basket, and Monroe netted a basket earlier in the quarter.
Campbell led the Eagles with 11 points before fouling out. Cogdell rang up 10 points before he fouled out. Thomas followed with 8 points, and McCrea scored 6 points before he fouled out. Monroe finished with 5 points, and Scott tallied 4 points before he fouled out.
Kayvon topped the Viking scoring with 22 points, and Jaecon followed with 10 points.
The Eagle jayvees are 5-3 in Waccamaw action and 7-7 overall. East Bladen will host Pender Friday.
