TAR HEEL — Carnell Lewis poured in 24 points Wednesday night to lead Tar Heel’s Panthers to a 40-26 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over East Columbus.

Lewis nailed a 3-point shot, 2 free throws and another basket in the 1st quarter as the Panthers grabbed a 12-8 lead. Teammates Jarvis McMillan and Jordan King tossed in baskets, and McMillan netted a free throw.

Lewis fired in another 3-ball, another basket and 2 more foul shots as the lead grew to 19-12 at halftime. Lewis burnt the nets with 3 more baskets in the 3rd period. McMillan and Gregory O’Neal popped in baskets, and Levi Velasco-Garcia buried a 3-point shot to widen the gap to 32-20.

Lewis bombed in his 3rd 3-ball of the game in the final period and tacked on a free throw. McMillan pumped in a basket, and Velasco-Garcia cashed in 2 free throws.

McMillan followed Lewis on the Panther scoring list with 7 points, and Velasco-Garcia netted 5 points. J. T. Hudson topped the Hawk scoring with 14 points, and Xavier King added 7.

Coach Ken Cross’ Panthers remained unbeaten at 4-0 and will host Nakina Tuesday.
