BURGAW – Freshman Jackie Medina-Leal fired in a ‘Hat Trick’ of 3 goals Wednesday to lead East Bladen to an 8-1 non-conference jayvee girls soccer victory over Pender.

Medina-Leal also dished out an assist in the 1st half. Freshman Iveonna “NeNe” Ward posted a pair of goals in the 1st half as the Lady Eagles built a 6-1 halftime lead. Sophomore Heidi Rebollar dished out 2 assists and scored a goal in the opening half.

Freshman Leah McGill and sophomore Molly Evans tallied 1 goal each for East Bladen, and freshman Anna Miranda delivered an assist. Freshman Laila Smith made 1 save in goal for the Lady Eagles.

Ward put the Lady Eagles on top quickly scoring a goal in the 4th minute of play then finding the back of the net again 2 minutes later for a 2-0 East lead. Two minutes later Medina-Leal banged in her initial goal of the game then connected again a minute later.

Rebollar stretched the lead to 5-0 with a goal in the 15th minute. McGill slapped in her shot 13 minutes before halftime. Pender scored their only goal 6:29 before halftime.

Evans knocked in her goal 13 minutes into the 2nd half. Medina-Leal closed out her ‘Hat Trick’ with a goal 4 minutes later.

East Bladen’s varsity (1-0) will play Thursday with a 5 p.m. home game against Heide Trask. The jayvee Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 with their win over Pender.
