East Bladen High SchoolWHITEVILLE – East Bladen clinched the Three Rivers Conference jayvee soccer championship Wednesday night with a 4-1 victory over Whiteville.

Sophomore Jose Arteaga booted a corner kick to freshman Sulamon Algozy who flicked a pass to sophomore Jay McGill who tucked a shot into the corner of the net in the 24th minute for a 1-0 East Bladen lead.

One minute later McGill sent a pass to freshman Jay McKoy who drilled in the shot for a 2-0 Eagle lead. The score remained 2-0 at halftime.

Two minutes into the second half freshman Will Hester played a ball to freshman Milton Estrada who finished the shot into the goal for a 3-0 lead.

The Wolfpack cracked the scoring column with 12 minutes left to play to trim the lead to 3-1. Estrada was fouled in the box later in the half, and freshman Jackson Bostic nailed the penalty kick to boost the lead to 4-1.

“The guys played a great game today,” said Eagle Coach Jay Raynor. “I saw a lot of growth during the season. They played extremely well and controlled the game.”

Freshman Jacob Priest came up with several big saves to keep the game out of Whiteville’s reach.

“I am proud of the guys and their accomplishment and improvement this season,” continued Raynor. “These guys committed to the program and the process and have come a long way.”

The Eagles have a 4-0-1 conference record and 6-0-2 overall mark with only one conference game remaining.
