ELIZABETHTOWN- East Bladen rolled to a 2-0 victory over St. Pauls Tuesday that moved the Lady Eagles into a tie for second place in the Southeastern Athletic Conference’s jayvee volleyball final standings with West Bladen.

East Bladen won the sets by scores of 25-12 and 25-10. Zoe Smith poured in 14 service points, six aces, seven attacks and four kills to lead the winners attack. Sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward fired in eight service points, nine attacks, six kills and four aces.

Sophomore Mary Frances Sutton pounded the court with seven service points, an ace, six attacks and three kills for the Lady Eagles. Sophomore Mollie Tolar banged in six attacks, two kills and four service points. Sophomore Martha Simmons hammered in two kills, four service points and five attacks.

Freshman Jenna Brice slammed in two service points and an ace for East. Rylee Brice had a dig, and Molly Evans had an attack.

Ward opened the match with a run of five straight service points for a 5-0 East lead. Tolar kept the pressure on with a trio of service points as the lead grew to 12-4. Sutton reeled off a service run of six consecutive points for a 21-7 lead, and Simmons served out the set with a trio of service points.

A trio of service points from Ward kept East within 5-4 in the second set, before Smith blew the set open with a service run of 13 consecutive points that put the Lady Eagles up 21-7. Simmons served out the match at 25-10.

“This last game finished out a fantastic season,” said East Bladen Coach Jessica Eason. Her Lady Eagles matched West Bladen’s 9-3 record to claim a share of second place in the SAC-7. East Bladen finished 12-6 overall.
