FAIRMONT – Fairmont edged East Bladen 2-1 Thursday in Three Rivers Conference jayvee volleyball action by set scores of 26-28, 25-23 and 15-11.

Freshman Alyssa Futrell fired in 4 straight service points to lift East Bladen to a 9-7 lead in the decisive third set, but the Lady Tornadoes closed out the match with an 8-2 spurt.

Fairmont grabbed an early 10-6 lead in the first set but two service points by Futrell and a trio of service points from freshman Katie Evans pulled East Bladen even at 13-13.

Freshman Cheylee Mathis knocked in 4 service points to put the Lady Eagles on top 22-20. A pair of Sara Gargala service points kept East Bladen ahead 24-22, and the teams traded points until sophmore Abbie Cross served out the set at 28-26.

A pair of Cross service points and three more from Futrell inched East Bladen ahead 8-7 in the second set. Evans reeled off 4 consecutive service points to pad the Lady Eagle lead to 13-10.

Fairmont fought back to take a 17-13 lead, but service points from Gargala and freshmen Kayleigh Raynor and two more by Cross tied the set 23-23. Fairmont claimed the set with a side-out and a service point.

Cross led the Lady Eagles with 10 service points, and Futrell followed with 9 service points. Evans drilled in 2 aces and 5 service points. Mathis finished with 4 service ponts. Gargala totaled 3 service points, and Raynor added 2 service points.

East Bladen will host St. Pauls Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
