TABOR CITY –South Columbus defeated East Bladen 2-0 Tuesday in Waccamaw Conference junior varsity volleyball action by set scores of 25-16 and 25-20.
Freshman Kaylie Atkins started the match with a trio of service points for a quick 3-0 East lead. Service points from freshmen Marlie Potter and Taylor Dowless kept the Lady Eagles ahead 9-8, but South closed the set with a 17-7 run.
South built a 12-8 lead in Set 2, but Atkins reeled off a 5-point service run that vaulted the Lady Eagles on top 15-13. However Taylor Duncan answered with an 8-point service run that put the Lady Stallions on top 22-16.
Atkins led the East Bladen servers with 9 service points. Freshman Tatum Allen finished with 3 service points, and Dowless and sophomore Mileigh Martin scored 2 service points each. Potter had 1 service point.
“The girls played hard,” said East Bladen Coach Jessica Eason.
The Lady Eagle jayvees are now 2-3 in league play and 7-7 overall and will travel to East Columbus Thursday.
