ELIZABETHTOWN – West Bladen defeated East Bladen 2-0 Tuesday in Southeastern Athletic Conference jayvee volleyball action by set scores of 25-13 and 25-19.

Sophomore Marlie Walters sparked the Lady Knights to an early 5-1 lead with 4 consecutive service points. Teammate Kierra Lewis knocked in a trio of service points to pad the lead to 9-3.

After 2 more Walters service points extended the lead to 18-8, freshman Jenna Brice banged in 4 service points to pull East within 18-12. Freshman Natalee Sykes served out the set for the Lady Knights with 5 straight service points.

Lewis edged West ahead 5-4 in the 2nd set with a pair of service points. Sophomore Mollie Tolar vaulted East in front 15-13 with a trio of service points, but sophomore Marlene Crabtree pounded in 6 straight service points to propel West back on top 22-17. Freshman Kali Allen served out the set at 25-19.

Crabtree led the Lady Knights with 7 kills, 5 aces and 3 other service points. Sykes drilled in 5 aces, 2 other service points, a kill and had 3 assists. Lewis fired in 5 service points and 2 kills. Walters racked up 6 service points that included 1 ace, a kill and a dig.

Freshman Jaylyn Clark hammered in 3 kills and 3 blocks for West. Allen slammed in an ace and another service point, and Emme Bryant had 2 digs.

Tolar paced the East Bladen attack with 7 service points and 2 blocks. Jenna Brice smacked in 3 aces and 4 other service points. Sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward spiked in 7 attacks, a kill and a service point. Sophomore Mary Frances Sutton delivered 5 attacks and 2 kills.

Sophomore Martha Simmons swatted in 4 attacks, a kill and a service point for East. Molly Evans dished out 3 assists. Bridget Taylor contributed 3 digs, Zoe Smith added 2 attacks, and Aubrie Nixon had 1 attack.

Coach Kaitlyn Sykes’ Lady Knights, improved to 6-2 in SAC-7 play and 9-6 overall and will host Fairmont Thursday. East Bladen, now 6-3 in the SAC-7 and 9-6 overall, will travel to Fairmont Tuesday.
