Kayla Thompson, playing in the LPGA and Epson Tour Qualifying event in Rancho Mirage, California, shot an even par 72 in the third round Wednesday to make the cut and advance to Thursday’s final round of qualifying.

Her par round Wednesday, played on the Indian Wells Classic course, consisted of 11 pars, 4 birdies, 2 bogeys and 1 double bogey, for 37-35=72. Beginning her round on hole No. 10, she birdied No. 13 and No. 14 to get to even par for the tournament and made the turn at 1-under for the round after a bogey on No. 15. She had a double bogey on No. 2 and bogey on No. 3, but rallied with birdies on No. 6 and No. 7.

Thompson shot 73-73-72=218 for the first three rounds. Her 2-over score is tied for 111th in the field that was cut to the top 125 and ties among the more than 300 entrants following Wednesday’s round. The cut was at 2-over.

Thompson will play the fourth round with Madison Frerking and Yucen Han with a tee time at 8:30 am PDT (11:30 EDT) on the 10th tee on the Dinah Shore course. Thompson shot a 1-over 73 on Dinah Shore course in Monday’s first round.

The top 95 players and ties at the end of the tournament will advance to Stage 2 to be played in Venice, Fla. Thompson is only one stroke behind being among the top 95.

Thompson lives in Clarkton and graduated from West Bladen High School.
