TABOR CITY – Aidan Trinidad started and finished on the mound Monday as Clarkton School of Discovery outlasted Tabor City 11-7 in Waccamaw Middle School Conference baseball action.
Trinidad pitched the first 3 innings for the Blue Devils and left the mound with an 8-5 lead. Jaxon Hair pitched the 4th inning for Clarkton, but Trinidad returned to the hill with a runner on base in the 5th and retired the final 3 batters striking out 2 of them.
Trinidad allowed 5 runs on 5 hits in his 4 innings of work and struck out 8 batters. Hair worked an inning on the hill and gave up 2 runs on 4 walks while striking out two.
The Blue Devils jumped in front with 4 runs in the 1st inning. Trinidad led off with a single and darted home when Keyshawn Kemp belted a single. Cayden Moore hammered a double that scored Kemp. Kyran McKoy walked, and Joshua Strickland knocked in Cayden Moore and McKoy with a single.
Hunter Wood cracked a single in the Clarkton 2nd inning and dashed home when Cayden Moore swatted a single to boost the Blue Devil lead to 5-1.
Rex Register reached base on an error in the Blue Devil 3rd inning and scampered home as Trinidad reached base on an error. Wood was hit by a pitch, and Campbell reached base on an error as Trinidad and Wood scored to grow the lead to 8-2.
Tabor City rallied to within 8-7 after 4 innings, but Hair ignited a Blue Devil rally in the 5th inning with a single. Trinidad reached base on an error, and Campbell slammed a double that scored Hair and Trinidad. Campbell later stole home to pad the lead to 11-7.
Cayden Moore batted 2-for-4 with a double, 2 runs batted in and a run scored to lead the CSD hitters. Campbell doubled, scored a run and drove in 2 runs. Strickland delivered the 2-run single. Trinidad, Wood, Kemp and Hair connected for 1 hit each.
Trinidad scored 3 runs. Wood scored 2 runs, and Kemp, McKoy, Register, and Hair scored 1 run each. Kemp drove in a run.
Coach Robert Mazur’s Blue Devils evened their record at 1-1 and will travel to Nakina Thursday.
