ELIZABETHTOWN — Tykee Hill fired in 18 points Tuesday night to lead Elizabethtown to a 49-37 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Willams Township.
Coach Darius Gillespie’s Cougars improved to 3-5 and will visit Bladenboro Thursday night. Williams Township, now 3-6, will host Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday night.
Jayden Lewis followed Hill on the Cougar scoring list with 11 points. Fox Sutton buried a pair of 3-point shots for 6 points, and Damian Maynor tossed in 5 points. Nathan Edwards topped the Williams scoring list with 15 points, and Cam Bellamy rang up 12 points.
Hill battled inside for 4 baskets in the opening period. Sutton drained a pair of 3-pointers, and Lewis and Brandon McKinley threw in baskets. Lewis added a free throw for a 19-5 Cougar lead.
Lewis and Hill popped in 2 baskets each in the 2nd quarter, and Maynor pumped in a basket to push the Cougar lead to 29-14 at halftime.
Sawyer Coleman nailed a 3-pointer to spark an 11-3 Williams rally in the 3rd period. Hill sank 2 free throws, and Maynor netted one to keep Elizabethtown on top 32-25.
Hill padded the lead with a pair of baskets in the final quarter. Julian McLaney bombed in a 3-pointer, and Kollin Adams hurled in a basket and a free throw. Lewis cashed in 4 free throws in the period. Maynor canned 2 foul shots, and McKinley tacked on a free throw.
