FAYETTEVILLE – Emereau Bladen closed the game with a 13-5 run that secured a 38-24 middle school boys’ basketball victory over Riverside Christian Thursday that was the Aviators 3rd win of the season.
Tyler Eason drained a 3-point shot in the opening period for the Aviators. Joel Lewis popped in a basket, and Henry Simmons sank a free throw as Emereau edged ahead 6-5. Brice Scott, Jayce Hatcher and Gaston Russ threw in baskets in the 2nd quarter as the lead grew to 12-8 at halftime.
Hatcher burnt the nets with a trio of baskets in the 3rd period, Scott nailed a 3-point shot, and Cyncere Jessup and Cooper Long tossed in baskets as the Aviator lead stretched to 25-19.
Long buried a 3-point shot and another basket in the final quarter, and Simmons pumped in 2 baskets. Scott and Jessup tacked on a basket each.
Hatcher led the Emereau scoring with 8 points. Scott and Long were right behind him scoring 7 points each. Simmons finished with 5 points, and Jessup tallied 4 points.
