Tyre Boykin poured in 18 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as Tar Heel raced to a 35-16 halftime lead en route to a 49-28 Bladen Five Middle School Basketball victory over visiting Tar Heel Thursday.

Boykin nailed an early 3-point shot and threw in 2 more baskets and 2 free throws in the first quarter as Tar Heel grabbed a 15-4 lead.  Teammate Jadicus Register drained a 3-point shot, and Kendall Johnson dropped in a basket and a free throw.

Cory Carter scored the first East Arcadia basket, and teammates Kasey Price and Charles Dixon added a free throw each.

Boykin pumped in 2 baskets and 6 free throws in the second period as Tar Heel stretched the lead to 35-16. Register bombed in another 3-pointer, and hit a free throw. Johnson tossed in 2 baskets, and Shemaiah Leak added one.

Price lit up the scoreboard with 8 free throws and 2 baskets in the second quarter as he scored all of the East Arcadia points in the period.

Charles Dixon popped in a pair of baskets for East Arcadia in the third period, and Price netted one field goal. Johnson, Leak and Boykin tallied baskets for Tar Heel in the quarter as the home team maintained a 41-22 lead.

Leak racked up 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the final quarter, and Register added one for the final Tar Heel points. Price drove for a pair of East Arcadia baskets in the final period, and Dixon dropped in one bucket.

Leak finished with 10 points for the winners, and Johnson and Register totaled 9 points each.

Price fired in 19 points to lead East Arcadia, and Dixon finished with 7 points. 

East Arcadia connected on 10 of 18 free throws, while Tar Heel made 12 of 17 free throws.
