TAR HEEL – West Columbus raced to a 20-6 halftime lead then held on for a 38-34 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday night.

West Columbus’ Larry Graham rang up 7 of his game-high 19 points in the opening half, then had to sink 5 free throws and score 10 points in the final quarter to preserve the win. D. Williams scored 11 points for the Warriors.

Josiah Belle-Robinson bombed in a 3-point shot and added another basket to keep the Panthers within 10-5 at the 1st quarter break. Wendell Way canned a free throw for Tar Heel in the 2nd period.

Tavion Smith rallied the Panthers in the 3rd quarter by firing in a 3-point shot, 2 free throws and another basket. Belle-Robinson, Way and Dguan Smith threw in baskets as Tar Heel trimmed the WC lead to 24-19.

Tavion Smith filled up the rims with 4 more baskets in the final period. Kaleb Gaddy, Dguan Smith and Way tossed in baskets in the quarter, and Dguan Smith tacked on a free throw.

Top scorer for the Panthers was Tavion Smith with 15 points. Belle-Robinson finished with 7 points, and Dguan Smith and Way contributed 5 points each.

The Panthers, now 1-3, will travel to Whiteville Central Thursday.
