WHITEVILLE — Whiteville Central bombed in four 3-point shots that keyed a 20-9 Hornet spurt in the 3rd period that opened up a 43-26 lead enroute to a 56-32 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday night.
The Hornets threw in 11 3-point shots in the battle of unbeaten teams. Central improved to 11-0 and will visit East Columbus Thursday night. Tar Heel, now 6-1, still sits atop the Waccamaw’s ‘A’ Division with a 2-0 record and will host Tabor City Thursday night.
Carnell Lewis blistered the nets with 21 points to lead the Panther scoring. Teammate Demarious Guions tossed 8 points.
Taylor Rose drained five 3-point shots in the game and led Central with 17 points. Teammate Luke McLean fired in a pair of 3-balls and finished with 14 points. Briley Tedder drilled in a pair of 3-balls and totaled 9 points. Logan Little also connected on two 3-balls and tallied 9 points.
McLean and Tedder combined for 11 points as Whiteville built a 13-7 lead. Lewis buried a 3-point shot and 2 other baskets for the Tar Heel points.
Lewis pumped in 2 baskets and Guions sank 2 free throws and a basket in the 2nd period. Levi Velasco-Garcia added a basket to keep the Panthers within 23-17 at halftime.
Lewis connected on 4 of 6 free throws in the 3rd quarter and added a basket. Guions dropped in a basket, and Jarvis McMillan cashed in a free throw. Lewis popped in 2 baskets in the final period, and Guions netted a basket.
