CLARKTON — Justin Brown and Kevonte Phillips shared scoring honors with 12 points each as they led Tabor City to a 38-23 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday night.

The Eagles improved to 3-6 and will visit Tar Heel Thursday night. Clarkton, now 0-8, will travel to play Williams Township Thursday night.

Three baskets from Phillips and 3-point baskets from Brown and Noah Buffkin carried the Eagles to an early 12-4 lead. Omar Powell and Noah White tossed in early baskets for the Blue Devils.

Omar Powell drained a 3-point shot and a free throw in the 2nd quarter, and teammate Mario Zarate popped in a basket, but a pair of Phillips baskets kept Tabor City up 23-10 at halftime.

Darnell Rouse rallied the Blue Devils with a pair of baskets in the 3rd period, and Omar Powell flipped in a basket and a free throw. Zamarion Pone and Zarate sank free throws to trim the margin to 28-19.

Omar Powell, who led the Blue Devils with 11 points, pumped in another basket in the final quarter. Rouse added another basket to finish with 6 points, and Zarate scored 3 points. Five different players scored baskets in the final period for the Eagles.

The Blue Devils missed 18 of 22 free throws in the game. Tabor City was 0 for 6 at the foul line.
