WHITEVILLE – Whiteville Central raced to a 34-11 halftime lead en route to a 62-30 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Thursday night.

McLean led the Hornets with 13 points, and Jones followed with 8 points. Thirteen different players scored for Central.

Tavion Smith fired in 3 baskets and 2 free throws for Tar Heel in the 1st half. Teammates Kaleb Gaddy and Axel Martinez threw in baskets before halftime.

Tavion Smith who topped the Panther scoring with 18 points popped in 3 baskets and 4 free throws in the 2nd half. Martinez tossed in 2 baskets and a free throw, and Josiah Belle-Robinson sank a free throw and a basket. Martinez finished with 7 points for the Panthers.

Tar Heel will host Elizabethtown Tuesday night.
