Clarkton School of Discovery edged Tar Heel Wednesday 3-2 in the shoot-out after the teams finished regulation play tied 1-1 in Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys soccer action.
Garrett Melvin drilled in the only Blue Devil goal in regulation play on a penalty kick in the second half. Andres Monroy scored the only Tar Heel goal in regulation.
Neither team scored on the first penalty kick of the shoot-out, but Monroy knocked in a Panther goal in the second round. Melvin answered with a goal on Clarkton’s second shoot-out kick.
After Tar Heel failed to score in the third round, Will Hester found the back of the net with a goal that put Clarkton ahead 2-1.
Gustavo Bravo pulled the Panthers even at 2-2 by scoring a goal in the fourth round. Andrew Kahn then hammered in the eventual winning goal for the Blue Devils in the fourth round.
Clarkton goalkeeper Jacob Priest made a diving save on Tar Heel’s final kick of the shoot-out to clinch the 3-2 victory.
The Blue Devils improved to 4-0 with the victory.
