ELIZABETHTOWN – Tailback Javant McDowell ran for over 150 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Elizabethtown to a 37-6 victory over Bladenboro in the Bladen Five Middle School Conference football opener for both teams.

The Cougar defense scored first as Zach Meares intercepted a Bladenboro pass and returned the ball 80 yards for a touchdown. McDowell ran the 2-point conversion for an 8-0 Elizabethtown lead.

After the Cougar defense stopped the Bulldogs, McDowell raced 80 yards on the next play from scrimmage for a touchdown. Darius Autry tacked on the 2-point conversion on a run for a 16-0 Elizabethtown lead.

Autry broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Cougars built a 22-0 halftime lead.

McDowell galloped 60 yards for his second touchdown in the third quarter. Lefrederick Wooten carried into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and a 30-0 lead.

Rasean McKoy dashed 50 yards for the final Elizabethtown touchdown, and Victor Garcia kicked the extra point.

Bladenboro quarterback ShyRon Adams threw a 20-yard touchdown pass in the closing minutes to put Bladenboro on the board.

Cougar Coach Ricky Whitaker said, “The defense did a good job and shut them out until the final minutes.”

Elizabethtown will travel to Clarkton School of Discovery next Thursday, while Bladenboro will host Tar Heel.
