BLADENBORO — Bladenboro’s Lady Bulldogs raced to an early 13-3 lead enroute to a 21-7 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Tar Heel Wednesday.

Coach Hayley Baxley’s Lady Bulldogs, the Waccamaw ‘AA’ Division co-champions, improved to 9-1 on the season and will play Elizabethtown in the opening round of the Bladen County Tournament Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Bladenboro. The Lady Panthers, now 0-11, will battle Clarkton School of Discovery at 4 p.m. in Tuesday’s opener.

Allison Hickman fired in a pair of baskets to give Bladenboro an early 4-0 lead. Addison Wilcox nailed a 3-point shot and a free throw in the 2nd period. Hadley Dove popped in a basket and a free throw, and Amiya McCarty tossed in a basket as the margin grew to 13-3.

Genesis Fernanta-Villafuerte sank a Tar Heel basket, and Abigail Dew added a free throw in the 2nd period. Fernanta-Villafuerte pumped in a Lady Panther basket in the 3rd quarter, and Savannah Wooten cashed in 2 free throws for Tar Heel in the final period.

McCarty and Liz Miller threw in Bladenboro baskets in the 3rd period, and Maycee Kinlaw and Maleigha Chatman scored Lady Bulldog baskets in the final quarter.

Hickman, McCarty and Wilcox shared scoring honors for Bladenboro with 4 points each.
