BLADENBORO — Bladenboro’s Lady Bulldogs fought back from an early 8-0 deficit and knocked East Columbus from the unbeaten ranks with a 24-23 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory Tuesday.

Coach Hayley Baxley’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-1 and will travel to Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday. East Columbus, now 8-1, will visit West Columbus Thursday.

Kayla Hall sparked the Lady Hawks to the early lead with 5 points, but Amiya McCarty rallied Bladenboro with a pair of 2nd period baskets. Teammate Hadley Dove buried a 3-point shot, Maleigha Chatman tossed in a basket, and Allison Hickman sank a free throw to slice the East lead to 13-10.

McCarty, Hickman and Addison Wilcox threw in a basket each to pull the Lady Bulldogs even 16-16 at the 3rd period break.

Bladenboro’s Hadley Dove nailed a 3-point shot in the final quarter, and Hickman and Venus Cortes popped in a basket each. Wilcox tacked on a free throw as the Lady Bulldogs pulled out the win.

McCarty and Dove led the balanced Bladenboro attack with 6 points, and Hickman followed with 5 points. Wilcox netted 3 points each. Hall and Aleigh Godwin shared scoring honors for East Columbus with 10 points each.
